Hulk Figure
I remember playing poker when I was about 6 or 7. My first poker memory was playing at a social lodge that my uncle took me to with some older boys, using chicken nuggets as chips. It was only one time and I can’t say I knew what I was doing, but if you ever meet me, you’d bet there’s a good chance I won more nuggets than I lost.
This current run of poker started for me in the same cliched way that a lot of people started playing, right around the time Chris Moneymaker won the Main Event. My buddies and I got a friendly nickel/dime game going once a week, and that’s how it started. Then we stumbled into a free bar league, and I played almost every day for a year.
I met up with what would become most of the TurkeyNerd crew through those free games, and the Lunch Money Game that I was introduced to through some more friends that I met in the free league. I don’t play in the free leagues all that much any more, but I play online at Full Tilt, the Lunch Money Game, the EMHD tournaments, and a handful of other games if I can find the time.
As for the Hulk name … I’d like to say it’s ’cause I’m 6′ 5″ , 380 lbs and can bench press trucks, but it’s really all about my card protector. In the free leagues one day I was drinking, eating, and having a good ol’ time, wearing a Hulk T-shirt. Moving tables I realized that I had jalapeno’s and other assorted leftovers sitting on the Hulk’s face and thought it was hilarious. Rather than wear that shirt every time I played poker to remind me how much fun I’m having, I’ve found a series of small Hulk figures that I use to cap my cards, so the name it stuck.
