EMHD: Rule Updates for the B-Series

January 6th, 2010 by HULK Leave a reply »

With the first event of the EMHD Series B approaching on January 18th, our esteemable colleague type Tournament director asked me to postify the change-imacations that we made to the rules for partcipationary actions in the pokering. Here they are:

The focus of the changes for EMHD 2010 Series B are twofold-increase participation, especially in later events and adjusting the point system to improve the competitive balance while still keeping winning as a premium. We discussed the point formula, kill and participation points and agreed that no changes were needed or necessary. We did, however, clarify some language in the rules and procedures.

  1. All events will be at Harry & Lee’s condo party room in Arlington unless otherwise stated. The central location and open area room make it a great spot for tournaments of this size. However, there is a $25 fee for the usage of the room plus their expenses for the snacks and sodas and we ask that all players contribute to minimize that outlay.
  2. The language regarding the EMHD Prizes were altered to read “up to” the amount of the designated prize:
    1. The winner of each series will receive up to a $1500 prize package for a Tournament Buy-In to a 2010 World Series of Poker Preliminary Event. The Second Place finisher in points will be paid up to $750.
    2. If we do not accrue the designated prize payouts, the monies will be distributed to the top two (2) finisher based on a 2:1 ratio (67% : 33%).
  3. A tournament will not spread with less than NINE (9) players. Previously it was six (6)…fortunately this has never been a problem.
  4. The point and payout structures have been changed for simplicity and to reward players for winning bigger tournaments. Also, the point and payout percentages are again the SAME.
    1. 9-15 players, 3 paid places
    2. 16-30 players, 4 paid places
    3. # Players
      1st 2nd 3rd 4th
      9-15 50 30 20 N/A
      16-30 47 27 18 8
    4. The player finishing on the money “bubble” will receive HALF (50%) of the Points of the last paid place in the tournament. Previously, the bubble player received a percentage of the points available.
    5. Example: 16 Player, $100 single buy tournament, 1600 total points available, 4th place (8%) receives 128 points—5th place=64 points.
  5. When the EMHD-WSOP Prize Money is reached ($2250), we will not withhold the EMHD fund money for any subsequent tournaments in that designated series. If there is any excess money after the prize money threshold has been reached, that money will be withheld and added to the prize pool of the last Deep Stack tournament. This was done to add money but more importantly, increase participation in the later events.
  6. Proxy players are still allowed but can now be used in ANY event. Previously you could not use your proxy in the final Deep Stack event. The reason for the change is that we do not want to punish a player who has gone out of their way to completely support the series and then something unexpected come up and not be able to play in the last event. However, if that individual wins one of the EMHD-WSOP prizes, we will under no circumstance issue one of the two winning checks to that person. We will subsequently make arrangements to deliver or mail the check to the actual winner.

Other things…

We are in the process of developing a database to manage all of our tournaments. This will replace the spreadsheet system we currently use, giving us a more streamlined method to manage and organize player and event information. This will also gives us an easy way to track historical information. Special thanks to the IT Staff, John Hurst and Shawn Sansom for their work on this project.

Why are we starting on a Monday?

This is a holiday weekend and most companies give Martin Luther King Day off to their employees.

Why are starting with a re-buy/add-on event and adjusting the tournament order?

The reality is simple-we wanted to start this series with a bang! We make most of our EMHD money in these events and the prize pools are decidedly bigger. Also, the last three (3) tournaments are two weeks apart, one of which being the Deep Stack. We are aiming to hit our EMHD goals as early as possible to make the prize pool of that final tournament and hopefully the one prior to that, very juicy.

What about the room rental fee?

We are going to ask each player to kick in a few dollars at each event to pay for the room and cut some of Harry and Lee’s beverage and snack costs.

From the EMHD Staff, I want to thank you for your continued support of our series and for any potential new players, we welcome your participation.

Chris Snear

Tournament Director
